Having a Sense of Humor

Chelsea Handler really is one of my idols. I think the thing that I love most about her is that she can take something as depressing as rejection and bad dating experiences and turn it into comedy. With women, it's really not funny, but she makes it laughable.

I think the most frustrating thing about being a women is that we do deal with so many more hormones than men. Everything is so calculated, obsessed over and detailed oriented because of this. It really does drive me crazy. In situations where I would just like to relax and chill, my mind is racing at a million miles an hour.

Because of this, I have gotten myself into some major predicaments. In New York, dating is so freaking hard. Even my doctor brings it up everytime I see her... she's a successful doc in the city and even she has been through two divorces and thinks this city is a bitch to date in.

My big problem is that I have self-confidence, but I am a softy when I meet someone that I like. Guys can sense this, and I can never re-claim my ground once they have lost interest. It sucks because that is me and my personality. I am a really loving and giving Texas girl... those are the values I grew up with. People here are looking for something a bit more edgy than that.

At this point, I have been rejected so many times in so many ways that are extremely crushing, I just would like to laugh them off and learn from them. It is hard to do this and bounce back, but if Chelsea can do it, then I think I can too. I just may need a handle of vodka laying around the apartment.

So, I guess I am going to smile and slap some humor on dating in New York. It's laughable really how the two opposite sexes have evolved in this city over time. Our primitive desires still remain important, but the emotions that come along with it are not allowed to be expressed.

So Chelsea, here's to you!
